Okorie: Ur a joka

Albion: I’m online

Okorie: Would u like 2 talk on Skype

Albion: Ok

Okorie: Are u sure u wanna play

Okorie and I use several homophones to communicate with each other. A homophone is an abbreviation of the original word but still sounds and means the same. We use it as it’s shorter than writing the same word but still means the same. We use this when we say the letter “u” rather than saying the word “you”.

When I use the word “gonna” it isn’t actually a word. If I was to write in standard english I would’ve said got to. “gonna” isn’t actually any shorter than got to but I use it as I was speaking to Okorie rather than texting. If I was to stand face to face I would’ve used “gonna” and I did so here. This device is known as a phonetic when you write something the way you would have said it if you to talk. This supports Mr Waugh’s theory as I am closer to talking by saying “gonna” in my texting rather than in standard english.

Analysing Kai’s work

Kai uses an exaggeration to show that iPhone is the best and uses that when he says ‘dominates the world, world domination’. This would show that Kai believes the iPhone is the best and uses a hyperbole as a tool of argument.

Person two also uses the world “Wasteman”. This world is an insult to say to that person that they do nothing with their life or nothing much. In this case, it was used to insult the camera person about they can’t do anything else with their life so they have to film person one and two having their conversation about the iPhone and the Samsung.

Spoken Language Analysis

The reason why Arbies and myself used repetition was to illustrate emphasis on each of our points. In Arbies’ case when he say ‘Look at the table. Look at the table.’ he used it to show how low Chelsea were in the league table. In my case when I say ‘and what, and what and what’ it was to show that there wasn’t really any problem with what his point was trying to state.

I use 2 omissions ‘so what?’ and ‘so?’ to shorten the sentences to almost make the argument flow more. Additionally, I am talking informally to my friend so I had no need to standardise the sentence and choose to keep it informal.

Finally, I used a filler when I said ‘Er’ to give myself some time to fully complete the point I was trying to make and once again it is informal. For it to be standard I should’ve said ‘It was’ rather than ‘Er’. Furthermore, I believe that if a person uses a filler in a argument it could be of a benefit to the opposing side as it shows them that you have got them in a situation they haven’t thought of and they are on the back foot in the argument and are struggling for points to counter your points.

Arbies: What position are you in the league?

Albion: 17th. So what?

Arbies: You’ve played 5 games.

Albion: So?

Arbies: You’ve got 4 points. Let me bring out the table.

(Brings out phone)

Arbies: Look at the table. Look at the table.

Albion: Yh. Fair enough maybe we are 17th in the table and what and what and what. Just because we are 17th does that make a difference?

Arbies: Yes it does.

Albion: What difference does that make then? 5 games gone it’s early days in the premier league how many games are left Arbies oh wait 33 game left. And I personally think that despite the poor run of form that we are on now I believe we will finish above you to be totally honest.

Arbies: Above us? Let me just remind you about what Steven Naismith did to you.

Albion: He scored a hat-trick.

Arbies: Naismith.

Albion: We banged in 6 goals against you.

Arbies: When was that?

Albion: Er, around 3 seasons ago.

Arbies: That’s the past, lets talk about now.

Albion: That was the past as well that was on Saturday and today is Tuesday.

Arbies: 5 games we’ve played 10 points, 5 games you’ve played 4 points.

Albion: And that’s 2 losses, 2 losses. do you know how easy 2 losses are.

Arbies: No, 3 losses. Crystal Palace, Everton and Man City.

Albion: So, fair enough yes City we did deserve to lose because we played terrible.

Arbies: You’re doing shit.

Albion: No we’re not.

Arbies: You’re doing shit.

Albion: Maybe we are so what. This is what I don’t understand yeah, we dominate, lets take the Everton gamer for example, we dominated possession the entire second half.
