We can tell from the description of the servant that Jaggers is a thug and someone who seeks to dominate and embarrass everyone for his personal pleasure. This is shown when the servant (Molly) is forced by Jaggers to show both of her wrists showing that with one of them she tried to commit suicide. This shows that Jaggers has the physical and mental power over Molly and how scared she is of Jaggers.

‘ Suddenly, he clapped his large hand like a trap’. This metaphor describes the conditions that Molly is having to confront and showing she is an animal in his eyes and the clear disrespect is also shown when ‘ not looking at her, but looking at the opposite side of the room’. The word ‘ trap ‘ shows that he is a hunter and she is his prey and that she is scared like any animal would when they are trapped.
